Anxiety
Anxiety is a common feeling everyone can experience at some stage in their life. It can be a normal emotional response to stressful situations.
Anxiety is also a natural emotional response that can help us prepare for challenges, like sitting an exam, starting a new job or concern about an upcoming awkward social occasion.
What makes one person feel anxious may not create the same response in someone else. When we experience anxiety we are not living in the present but are living in the future of what may happen.
While anxiety is an everyday feeling we all experience, it can become a problem when there is no obvious reason for that anxiety or when anxious feelings persist.. Anxiety becomes debilitating when we live in fear of the future and find it very difficult to relax.
My work with people who experience unhealthy anxiety is based on helping them to recognise that their anxiety is a fear of the future which is destroying their ability to have peace of mind. I work on helping them to experience living in the present and I teach the skills of acceptance, gratitude and compassion.
